Dear All, Dear Members of the Polish Linguistic Society, Dear Colleagues,
2025 is the jubilee year of our Society. It was founded in Lviv exactly 100 years ago. It is one of the largest and oldest learned societies in Poland. The PLS Management Board has been working for many months to make this a truly special year for our Society.
The slogan for the jubilee year is:
Different languages – different methodologies – one Society.
How are we going to celebrate our Jubilee?
First and foremost, with this year’s Congress, held under the title Continuations and Innovations. The Centenary of the Polish Linguistic Society is unique and, therefore, the Congress will be held in Krakow, a city that is distinguished for its contribution to the Society. The Congress will not have a narrow thematic focus; rather, it will be open to issues concerning the most important and general questions. It will be accompanied by events that particularly emphasise its historical character. This is facilitated by the fact that, apart from the Faculty of Polish Studies and the Faculty of Philology of the Jagiellonian University, the Institute of Polish Language of the Polish Academy of Sciences has also become involved in the organisation of the Congress.
In addition, on the occasion of the Jubilee, our Society has taken patronage over many linguistic projects.
In today's world, visual identification is necessary for the visibility of an organisation. Therefore, as you have probably noticed, a PLS logo has been developed and unanimously approved by the Management Board. We also have a professionally prepared brand book, enabling a wide range of applications.
We are finishing our work on further anniversary initiatives, i.e. a documentary film about our Society and a book presenting the history, members, scientific achievements and key events of our organisation.
We would like to express our sincere gratitude to all individuals and institutions involved in the preparations for the celebrations.
On behalf of the PLS Management Board
Tomasz Mika, the Chair of the PLS Management Board
